Community Event 3: Happy Holidays!

Okay, okay, she got volunteers this time. She kind of had to in order to get the lights, tinsel, and various decorations up and around the room. Yes, that massive tree and all the ornaments were not possible to get up by the small dog alone. Not only that, but she asked everyone in Future Foundation, Hope's Army, and other friends to contribute an ornament to this tree.

"It looks great! Now, get that table over there! Oh, make sure the presents are under the tree... not that under! That table goes next to the tree for the Secret Santa gifts. Perfect!"

Bells jingling, she walked over to inspect the food. Looked great with turkey with stuffing, ham, and cinnamon baked apples, but she encouraged people to bring food from home too. For her, she paused at the fruitcake, tail wagging. This was her contribution after learning humans didn't like fruitcake for some reason; she was determined to make one everyone would like. Drinks of coffee, hot chocolate, non-alcoholic cider, and eggnog, she was going to keep this family-friendly... mostly. Again, she tried to accommodate for everyone.

Music? Check. Tables? Check. Laptop to contact Kalos? Check check. Looking up and at several areas in the room, mistletoe was a check. With a smile and nod, she hopped over to the doors and opened them.

"Happy Holidays everyone! Enjoy yourselves!"

Yeah, a bucket of KFC. Everyone has that for Christmas back home, there are lines out the door and you call in advance and everything. Americans don't do that? I always thought you did.

We have KFC, but not on Christmas in particular. And I've never heard of making reservations to a greasy, ubiquitous fast food chain.

It sounds awesome.

Okay, it's way too soon to do it this year, but next year, we stop by my place and pick up some KFC and Christmas cake on the way here. Deal? I mean, I already made the Christmas cake this year anyway, but.

Hell yes.

Great! And this year, we can just have this nice food. I might be getting used to the turkey, even if this is only my second time having it. Wait, that's a lie, there were leftovers after that other holiday last month and Isa-chan obviously couldn't take them home, so we got some of that. It was kind of cool, I tried frying it in a pan with some scrambled eggs like I saw on some cooking show once. Onee-chan had to help, but I think I can do it this time!

[callbacks]

[Dave's smile actually takes a tick towards the genuine.]

So that's going good, then? The stuff with your sister and all, I mean.

[mopocalypse]

Yeah. It's been weird to adjust, but our parents are happy to have the both of us. I mean, really happy, not that pretend-nothing-is-wrong happy from before that just felt weird.

[callbacks]

Yeah, I know what you mean. Well, sorta. My relations never went in for the weird fake happy 1950's aesthetic family act thing, but, I mean. You know.

[He shrugs one shoulder, awkward still about his stuff, but not wretchedly so. He nods.]

Really happy's a good thing all around, probably.

[mopocalypse]

Yeah.

[Reaches up on tiptoe to try and fluff his hair. She can barely reach the poor noodle.]

But we're gonna be okay now. And if we're not, I'll tell you. I don't want any of us to get hurt again, okay?

[callbacks]

[It probably doesn't help that the noodle has been growing since murder hotel. Dave Strider must be stopped.

He smiles, though, and doesn't even fix it for a moment.]

Yeah, okay. I guess I can live with that.

[You know what, time to share the hair-ruffling alike.]

[She laughs and gives him a hug. This is the kind of friendship you get in murderhotel.]

Don't worry, Dave-kun. I'm really glad you guys are here. You need to come over again, though! We totally swear we're not going to make you try baseball again, at least not in the snow.

[callbacks]

Well, it's not like the snow could make it any more of a complete fuckin' ludicrous disaster.

[The Little Busters learned that day that time-traveling swordsmen don't good baseballers make.]

But sure, I'll drop by some weekend next month. When're you guys free?

[mopocalypse]

Come on, it was fun! I mean, we all kinda sucked at first, too. Except Anego, she's good at everything. I mean, she kinda cheated because the dream world gave her teleportation and super speed, but still.

[Dave has earned the title "Still Better than Komari!"]

Winter break's coming up soon, so if we can escape from studying long enough, that'll be fun. Onee-chan's making me study with her... She's even invited Anego and Kud-ko and her friend the dorm manager, so it'll be me and all the smart kids. This is the real despair.

[callbacks]

[There had definitely been a moment of, "Dave, we need to see you touch the bases when you run." "Oh."

But Dave smirks.]

Oh no, a friendship study group. The goddamn humanity.

[He flicks at her upper ponytail, teasing.]

You don't understand, Dave-kun. The top-scoring students in the school and the slacker who barely studies. I want to just sleeeeeeeep.

C'mon, it's just high school. You saved like a zillion people. It can't be that hard.

[mopocalypse]

You're the one who said that, if high school was anything like you saw on TV, that was scarier than another apocalypse.

[callbacks]

Is high school like on TV? I still haven't been, you know.

[mopocalypse]

Sometimes. There's drama and stuff. But you do a whole lot more memorizing and general homework than on TV, and I suck at that.

Maaayyyybe I could come help?

[SO SUE HIM, HE'S CURIOUS.]

I mean, I dunno what I could do, given that I literally don't know what goes on inside a real life educational establishment, but I'm definitely the dumbest one out of my friends back home so I could at least offer empathetic moral support.

[mopocalypse]

You actually want to try studying for school? It's just memorizing stuff and not really understanding it. I learned more in murderschool.

[Oh my gosh is he embarrassed about being sort of interested in a normal kid life? Dave.]

I could help you study, is what I was thinking. I'm not sure learning modern Japanese history or whatever's gonna help me out too much living in fairy Pokéworld, but I can, I dunno. Hold flashcards. ...Help with English. ...Stuff.

[Haruka grins.] Of course! If it sounds fun, I'm not gonna stop anyone from having fun! Besides, Onee-chan probably wants to talk more about physics and multiple-world theories like she does when I have any of you guys over. I think she wishes she worked here.

If she actually likes listening to me ramble about that stuff, maybe she should work here. Christ knows one person ought to actually understand how that shit works, not looking at you, Speedwagon.
