Community Event 3: Happy Holidays!

Okay, okay, she got volunteers this time. She kind of had to in order to get the lights, tinsel, and various decorations up and around the room. Yes, that massive tree and all the ornaments were not possible to get up by the small dog alone. Not only that, but she asked everyone in Future Foundation, Hope's Army, and other friends to contribute an ornament to this tree.

"It looks great! Now, get that table over there! Oh, make sure the presents are under the tree... not that under! That table goes next to the tree for the Secret Santa gifts. Perfect!"

Bells jingling, she walked over to inspect the food. Looked great with turkey with stuffing, ham, and cinnamon baked apples, but she encouraged people to bring food from home too. For her, she paused at the fruitcake, tail wagging. This was her contribution after learning humans didn't like fruitcake for some reason; she was determined to make one everyone would like. Drinks of coffee, hot chocolate, non-alcoholic cider, and eggnog, she was going to keep this family-friendly... mostly. Again, she tried to accommodate for everyone.

Music? Check. Tables? Check. Laptop to contact Kalos? Check check. Looking up and at several areas in the room, mistletoe was a check. With a smile and nod, she hopped over to the doors and opened them.

"Happy Holidays everyone! Enjoy yourselves!"

[Those who were expecting Duster to arrive in his suit will be surprised to find him wearing a green sweater and his regular bright red pants. He'll get to the double bass...eventually...but while Tazmily has a winter solstice festival, he wants to experience a Future Foundation Christmas to the fullest.

He helps Isabelle decorate the tree before the party because why have dogmom do all the work when you can reach the highest branches without the use of a stepladder?

Duster leaves Rope Snake to slither off and explore the table of food while he finds a comfy spot to sit and watch the wonderful gathering of people.]

Yaha, Aniki! [Haruka waves, not that you couldn't spot her from across the room in that tacky outfit.] I've never done Western Christmas before like a lot of these people have. Actually, I've never really done much of Christmas the way we do back home, either. How's the party?

[That green and red mixed with long pink hair is a difficult combination to ignore. Duster waves from his seat right back and stands up to give Haruka a hug. It's been a month since they last saw each other.]

Isabelle's the best at throwing living parties. [Ghost parties are also fun, but the world is a lot less colorful and it's kind of sad.] Even if we don't call it Christmas where I'm from, we're still celebrating the same thing, right?

[Hug!] Yeah, Isa-chan can do anything! I heard you're supposed to get presents for everyone in some countries, so I didn't want to disappoint anybody, but it was hard finding people stuff...

Um. [Looks around the room.] There'a lot of people we'd have to buy presents for. [What would he give to the FF members who he didn't know well? More ribbons?]

...I got a present for you, of course. [He pulls out a flat package wrapped in brown paper. Colorful wrapping is hard to come by in a post-apocalyptic world.]

Whoa, thanks! [She sets Meringue down, opens up her bag, and pulls out a little package, exchanging it for Duster's. Haruka opens her present; what's there?]

[It's another shirt. This time, it's small enough to fit Haruka with "DCMC" written on it in flashy yellow and black letters in front of a pinkish-red backdrop. There's also a pamphlet, a cap, and an armband with that same logo.]

It's all stuff from Club Titiboo. I thought I could give you some of the exclusive merchandise for free. [He won't be surprised if Haruka wears it during the party. It perfectly mismatches with the rest of her getup.

In the meantime, he unwraps his present. What's in this one?]

Whoa, it's "cool!" [She hugs it and puts it all back in her bag.] I'll wear it later! I hope you like your stuff, even if it's not as nice.

[Duster does indeed get that tie clip, along with a small bag of candy.]

Sorry, I didn't really have a lot of options and I didn't know if you'd like it...

[He's quiet when he first sees the pin. Duster gave Haruka a lot of things, but this...is something worth more that that.]

It's perfect! [He smiles and picks it up with his thumb and forefinger, bringing it closer to his eyes.] I'm wearing this to the New Year concert!

[The candy is great, too, but that might not last as long.]

[Slowly, Haruka starts to light up.] Really? You like it? I thought I hadn't given you enough, I mean, you gave me a ton of stuff, and...

[Duster worries when Haruka acts so surprised when he likes her gifts. She's come a long way since he first met her, but when he thinks about it, does he still have issues with trusting himself?

So he nods and holds the tie pin close to his chest.] It means a lot to me, and that's more important. [What a day not to come in his suit and tie.] I need to step up my game and get a shirt saying "best little sister" next time!

[The box with the bag of candy goes under his arm, but he'll work that pin onto the fold of his shirt.]

I'm really glad! And here I was worried about whether you'd like it. Your presents are awesome, though! I want to do this kind of Christmas every year.

[Thumbs up!] We really should! There's a lot of things from my world I have to show you!

Did you find something fun for us to explore again?

Mm-hm. I found another cave in the mountains to the north. I'm sure we'll run into wildlife, but there's bound to be something interesting in there. [It wouldn't be an RPG without treasure inside a dungeon.]

...We should bring more food next time. Just in case we need to heal up and we aren't lucky enough to have Lucas follow us into an ambush.

Sure! Just give me a list of what all we need. I can bring a whole picnic basket along! That'll be good for everyone. Who all's coming?

[He holds up a hand and counts on his fingers with his head tilted upward as he thinks.] Let's see...Harvey wanted to visit Tazmily again, so I should ask him. Rufioh, Dave, and Allie want to come, and Futo's interested in training again.

[They got some fighters on their team. They should be good.] I'll ask around one more time, but expect seven of us.

Sure, sure! That sounds like fun. I like having all of you around, and I bet we can work well together.

[It's a good balance of strengths, with a picnic basket to replace the party healer.]

You said this was a Western Christmas? What's the difference between that and an Easter Christmas?

Duster, Merry Christmas!

[ tis a Kureha! she sits herself next to him with a little smile, that bag of gifts swinging on her arm as she does so. ]

Did you help set all this up?

[When Kureha sits down, his seat on the couch jostles, but once Duster is settled again, he moves his sack of presents on the floor with his foot. He hopes that enough room for Kureha to set down her presents.]

Merry Christmas! [He has no idea how this holiday works, but he's at least going to get the greeting right.] Isabelle did most of the work. I helped with reaching the high spots.

[He points to the giant Christmas tree. There's not way a tiny person could put all those ornaments near the top.]

[ she waits until he's made enough space before setting down her bag down next to his -- and reaching in to root around while she talks. ]

I'm not surprised -- in fact, I'm more surprised that you managed to get any help in edgeways. Isabelle's a one-dog organizational machine. Ah, here it is...

[ she straightens up, pulling out a soft, floppy gift, holding it out for Duster to take. When he opens it up, he'll find a cozy brown sweater vest inside. ]

Here's yours.

[Duster watches her dig through her numerous bags and takes the gift eagerly. He pulls off the wrapping slowly to reveal the vest. It's so...brown.]

Honestly, this is one of the best clothes I ever got. [It certainly different from Tsukiyama's handwork, and it's definitely a color Duster doesn't wear often.] I'll have to find a shirt I can wear this with.

[He's not too great at folding clothes, but there is an attempt. The vest is technically folded correctly, but it's sloppy and one of the arm holes sticks out.]

Thanks. And before I forget... [He reaches into his bag and pulls out a jar of honey.] I brought this from Tazmily. Bears really like this where I'm from.

I'm glad you like it! I wasn't sure what to get at first but... I thought, if you're travelling a lot, I'd hate to think of you ending up someplace cold without a sweater.

[ also it was kind of a Dad Sweater and you're the daddest person she knows ~~that she didn't kill~~

her eyes light up at the jar of honey and when she takes it from him, her smile gets a little nostalgic. Honey always makes her think of Lulu, now -- and it stings a little but here, surrounded by goodwill and family, it's dull enough to be more sweet than bitter. ]

... thank you. I've been... thinking about getting some honey lately, you know. So it's good timing.

[Congratulations, Duster. You're a dad. Have fun realizing how much responsibility you have.]

It's always good to have more clothes. [Tazmily is a warm village, but a vest would be good if he was traveling with the DCMC and he needed civilian clothes. Kumatora had been bugging him to wear something different so that hardcore fans wouldn't recognize him in his blue shirt and bright red pants.]

Do bears eat a lot of honey, or is it more like a dessert to them? I never really figured it out on my own.
